On Wednesday, January 14th, the gavel pounded to open the 2015 Virginia General Assembly Session. This year is the “short session” of 45 days if all goes well.
It is always good to start the Legislative Session by focusing on what we are challenged to do. By design, Virginia government is made up of citizens from varying work experiences and backgrounds who meet for a limited time to work for the good of the people of the Commonwealth. And then we return home to live and work in our communities. Another important fact about Virginia is that a balanced state budget is required.
While in Richmond we have a hectic schedule with very serious and important issues to consider. Before a bill comes to the floor for a vote in the House or Senate, it must go through the committee process where we hear testimony from citizens, legislators and groups who may be affected. Every day I examine the information available and pray for wisdom in making decisions.
The committees and subcommittees where I serve are:
Agriculture, Chesapeake and Natural Resources Committee
Chair of Agriculture Subcommittee
Commerce and Labor Committee
Chair of Special Subcommittee on Worker’s Compensation
Special Subcommittee on Energy
C&L Subcommittee #2
Workforce Development Subcommittee (new appointment 2015)
Counties Cities and Towns Committee (Vice Chair)
Chair of Subcommittee #2
I am honored to represent the citizens of the 14th House District which includes the City of Danville, parts of Henry County and parts of Pittsylvania County. We always want to hear from our constituents of the 14th district. While we are in Richmond you may reach us at:
